Strong | WASHINGTON ? The Rev. Doug Strong, professor of the history of Christianity at Wesley Theological Seminary, has been appointed Associate Dean for Church Relations at the seminary. He will continue a half-time teaching load, as he takes on his new duties including administrative oversight of the Lilly Endowment grant on 'Making Connections' and the development of sites and placements for the Student Pastor Track. 'During my years in ministry, whether in the local church or teaching at the seminary, I have been driven by a particular vocational preoccupation: assisting with God's mission of renewing mainline Christianity,' Strong said. Strong has been a member of the faculty at Wesley since 1989 and an elder in the Baltimore-Washington Conference since 1992. He directed the Covenant Discipleship program, the summer school and the Master of Theological Studies program at Wesley. He has also led cross-cultural immersion trips for faculty and students to Russia, England, Appalachia and inner-city Washington, D.C., and participated in faculty immersion trips to Peru, Cuba and Korea. Strong is active in the congregation of Oakdale-Emory UMC, where he taught Disciple Bible Study and other adult classes, and led the senior high youth group. |
