Bishop John Schol runs a half-marathon to benefit the HOPE Fund

On March 21, Bishop John R. Schol ran for HOPE by completing a half marathon in Washington, D.C. His family and youth leaders from the conference were there to cheer him on. An interview with the bishop and an opportunity to make an online donation in recognition of this race is available on the conference Web site.

The HOPE Fund is a conferencewide initiative to raise a million dollars. Funds have already been collected and distributed for AIDS ministries and to rebuild churches and ministries in Mississippi, which were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. The remainder of the funds collected will go to United Methodist ministries in Zimbabwe. The fund is short $260,000 to reach its goal by the end of 2009.

The Baltimore-Washington Conference has a partnership with United Methodists in Zimbabwe, who struggle with poverty, malaria, cholera and AIDS.
