Be a Buzzer Beater

Posted by Bwcarchives on
The clock is running out for children in Africa, where every 30 seconds a child dies of malaria. To address this unfolding tragedy, United Methodists throughout the Baltimore-Washington Conference are joining in a partnership with the Washington Mystics and Nothing but Nets to take a shot at malaria.

A portion of the proceeds from the Mystics game on Saturday, June 12, will purchase malaria nets for children in
Zimbabwe. Tickets are $20.

Not a basketball fan? Come and enjoy praise and worship by Urban Street Level and guest speakers: Vanessa Baker, a Christian speaker and former Miss New Jersey; and Elizabeth McKee Gore of the United Nations Foundation.

Change the world

On April 24, on World Malaria Day, United Methodists are called to Change the World. Included in the suggested activities are a “Sleep Out to End Malaria” on the weekend of April 24-25. The sleep out events, in which individuals sleep overnight under imitation bed nets, coincide with the denomination’s official launch of “Imagine No Malaria,” an initiative that seeks to raise $75 million to eliminate death and suffering from malaria in Africa by 2015.
