ASHTON ? For 13 months while construction was underway, Ashton UMC held Sunday services at the Olney Seventh Day Adventist Church and meetings and other activities at Spencerville Free Methodist Church.

Those days are over. The church recently held its consecration service, marking the completion of the major expansion and renovation. During the consecration service Dec. 12, the Rev. Mary Ellen Huzzard recognized the church's former pastor, the Rev. Jeffrey Jones, who had begun the building program. The Rev. Mark Derby, superintendent of the Washington West District, preached on 'Faith that Finds Favor with God.'

The expansion added church offices, a music room, class rooms, a portico entrance and a large narthex on the upper level. The lower level now has an activity room and four new classrooms to support growth of the Ashton Christian Preschool. The pre-existing sanctuary on the upper level was extensively refurbished.

The general contractors for the building addition, the Keller family, are members of the church.
