'Angel Food' ministry feeds people

Posted by Bwcarchives on

CHARLES TOWN, W. VA. ? Like people in many other parts of the country, many residents in Jefferson County, W. Va., do not earn enough to pay their bills and eat nutritional food.

To respond to the increasing need, the Oakland UMC has partnered with Angel Food Ministries, an ecumenical ministry that provides groceries through a discount, bulk buying program.

Terry Zaleski and her husband Jack co-direct the church?s program. ?We sent brochures and order forms to social programs, Laundromats, the Charles Town Race Track and Slots, and other churches,? Zaleski said. ?Our orders from families, including those on food stamps, have skyrocketed.?

Angel Food?s groceries are sold in units of $25, Zalewski explained. The groceries include high quality fresh and frozen items, meat, produce, carbohydrates and desserts, with a retail value about double what is paid.

For information on the program, call the church at (304) 725-3737, or visit www.oakland-church.net.
