All female mission team helps widow

Posted by Bwcarchives on

CRESAPTOWN - As the Cresaptown UMC youth group look back on their summer, they remember the Henderson Settlement in Rakes, Kentucky, with love for the widow whose home they had repaired.

It was a new experience for most of the teenage, all-girl team and they learned how to use crow bars, hammers, drills, circular saws and how to drywall a house.

Henderson Settlement was started in 1925 in response to the impoverished population in southeastern Kentucky. It is the site of frequent mission teams in the summer, but continues to have more than enough work for all. There were about 12 teams from Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Illinois working in the area the week of the Cresaptown team.
