The Rev. Dellyne I. Hinton shares a prayer for the people of Haiti

BY REV. DELLYNE I. HINTON

Great God can you hear your children’s cry?
The roads which were rough are now impassable.
The children which had been left behind are now lost.
The women who worked to hold their families together
are now fighting to hold their country together.
The threads are thin, many lives have been lost.
Buildings have crumbled, government has crumbled, the earth shook and the curtain tore.

The least, the last, and the lost… where is the justice? Haiti, you have been the
Syrophoenician woman seeking just the crumbs from the tables of prosperity.
The curtain tore and now you are seen.
Jesus give to Haiti, not just the crumbs from under the table, but the healing of the nation. Almighty God, re-create Haiti, such that no child will be left behind, left out or passed over.

Holy Spirit, move so that families,
both mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers,
come together to care for the sick, honor the dead,
and build a future in the name of God.

Great God, bind your people together so that no hurt goes unheeded.
Great God, bind your people together so that no person is lost.
Great God, bind your people together so that we all will not be quieted in our soul,
until and unless, all Haitian people are standing on the Rock,
until they are anchored in the Rock,
until they are protected in the Rock.
And may justice roll down from the Rock of Salvation and bring life.
Amen.

Rev. Dellyne I. Hinton is pastor of Sharp Street Memorial UMC in Baltimore.
