100 years and going strong

TIMONIUM ? The centennial celebration at Timonium UMC really began last June when the children in Sunday school covered the ceiling of the fellowship hall with balloons. Officially, the celebration was Oct. 7-8.

All the past pastors and assistant pastors, except one, attended the Saturday night banquet, held in the fellowship hall and filled with music, reminiscent of a hundred years ago when the church was officially organized in 1906, said Polly Downes, co-organizer of the event.

The Sunday morning service was preceded by 25 minutes of musical groups performing. Then the church?s four choirs, the visiting past clergy and current clergy, groups in the church, and Bishop John R. Schol processed down the aisle, each section carrying a banner they placed in the front of the church.
