IGNITE speakers help unleash greatness and 'sacred creative savvy'

Posted by on

“And Go …” is the rallying cry of IGNITE, the upcoming youth conference in Ocean City. It’s also a theme that drives the lives of the event’s two keynote speakers – the Revs. YaNi Davis and Mike Whang.

Whang, who is a pastor in the Texas Annual Conference, creates worship and other wonders for Oikon Studios. An innovative and transformative speaker, he encourages youth to take God’s Word seriously and imaginatively.

“What would it look like to sincerely shape our lives around that Wesleyan phrase happiness and holiness of heart? What kinds of rhythms, practices and friendships might emerge,” Whang asked. He’ll explore some possible answers as he empowers youth to deepen their journey with God and discover the new things the Spirit is unleashing in our world.

Davis, who has been called “the Peace Pastor” and “an internationally recognized performance artist and creative flow strategist,” defines her ministry as helping people “tap into their inner greatness and unleash their sacred creative savvy.”

Coming to IGNITE, she’ll explore Jesus’ command to “Therefore Go,” and help youth “take the leap and let God be our parachute along the way.” The Great Commission, she said, “means we trust God to direct our paths when we decide to ‘Go.’ It means we follow Jesus and serve as love and light in the world. It means we trust the Wholly (not a typo) Spirit to go before us when we live courageously in our purpose and Godly pursuits.”

Joining Whang and Davis will be musical artist Angie Rose, a rising Latina recording star, and North Point Worship, a collective of creative musicians from Atlanta, Ga.

Rose is known for music that offers a deep and emotional dive into faith, the beauty of life, and the certainty that “through Christ we are unstoppable.” The music of North Point Worship tells the messy and glorious story of journeying with God through tragedy and in celebration.

The DJ for the event will be El Vow, who his friends call Vow and his wife calls Bryan.

For El Vow, “every morning is a new opportunity and a blessing,” and he is excited about the blessings that IGNITE promises.

To those youth attending, he says, “Come with an open heart, ready to learn and ready to make lasting memories. Expect God to do the unexpected in your heart!”
