Beverly “Bobbie” Walker, 87, the wife of the Rev. John Walker, a retired Elder, died Sept. 30, 2015. The Revs. Adam Snell, Claire Matheny and Rick Buckingham officiated at a memorial service Oct. 12.
Bobbie Pierce was born Dec. 26, 1928, in Plainfield, Indiana. She was a music major in voice and piano at DePauw University when she and John Walker met and married and moved to New Haven, Conn., for him to study for the ministry.
His appointments in the Baltimore-Washington Conference included in 1954 as associate minister at Metropolitan in Washington, D.C.; Concord in Bethesda from 1960 to 1976, followed by Wesley in D.C. from 1976-1988; and finally Francis Asbury UMC from 1988-1994, when he retired.
She served with him at his appointments throughout his ministry. When the organist failed to show up one summer at one of his churches, Bobbie was asked to “fill in” and she continued for 14 years. Her real love was children and she taught music at Primary Day School in Bethesda for 42 years.
Survivors include her husband; three children: Mary Beth “Betsy” Walker of the Georgetown area of Washington, D.C., Jorgy Walker Gorog and husband Peter, and John Christopher “Chris” Walker of Tucson, Ariz.; and five grandchildren.
