2023 Proposed Church Disaffiliations

Following the procedure outlined in Para. 2553 of the Book of Discipline, 23 churches of the Baltimore-Washington Conference have decided to leave The United Methodist Church. Their disaffiliation must be approved in a vote of the Annual Conference.

The Local Church Disaffiliation Resolutions will be considered together as a single vote by the Annual Conference on Thursday, June 1, 2023. As a motion to accept the local church disaffiliation resolutions by a simple majority vote of the Annual Conference is entered, no amendments to the individual resolutions will be considered per Para 2553 of the Book of Discipline. 

If a legitimate reason exists supported by specific evidence that may warrant excluding a resolution from consideration, then a notice must be provided by a voting member of Annual Conference to the Conference Secretary ( ) no later than noon on Thursday, June 1, 2023 providing answers to the following questions to document the inquiry:

  1. What resolution should be excluded from consideration by the Annual Conference?
  2. How was the procedure followed inconsistent with Para 2553?
